Anti-Shackling Coalition Commences

In May 2008 The Rebecca Project began a national Anti-Shackling Coalition so that organizations from across the US could effectively work together to end the draconian practice of shackling incarcerated mothers during transport, labor, delivery and post-delivery in state prisons and jails.

42 people from 35 different organizations have already joined this coalition and are actively involved in our coalition's work.  While we have achieved significant victories with BOP on ending the practice of shackling mothers in federal correctional facilities, the practice endures in state prisons and local jails.  The coalition has a national conference call at least once a month if you would like to be a part of this coalition please email malika@rebeccaproject.org.
